Artisans Usiacurí

USIACURI ARTISANS

The artisans from Usiacuri in northern Colombia near the port city of Barranquilla, have been working with iraca palm for hundreds of years and create some of the most beautiful placemats, bowls and bags in all of Colombia. These handcrafts are made from scratch and every artisan is educated in the plantation, harvest, and preparation of the Iraca palm fibre. The weaving technique uses different patterns to structure and decorate the creations, and the colours, when dyed, come from the plant’s leaves roots, seeds, and minerals.

Passed down from generation to generation this artisan skill is a pride among the women of this tribe and their unique creations are incredible. The Meraki collection consists of some of our most beautiful pieces from woven placemats to intricate bags and wide brim hats.
