The Zenú Artisans of Tuchin, make traditional handwoven hats & clutches from the fibres of the indigenous Paja toquilla palm tree. Their Vueltiao hat is an iconic symbol of Colombian culture and is even featured on the Colombian two-thousand peso note. The making of these hat’s dates to pre-Colombian times. The Vueltiao, as well as the artisan’s palm clutches, are all handwoven on a traditional loom, using the long, rigid fibres to form intricate woven designs and patterns. Each one is then crafted individually and can take up to three weeks to complete.
